QcHcQ JBI Training Programs

The workshop will be offered online (synchronously), via Zoom. If you don’t have a Zoom account, you will be required to set one up prior to the course.

The workshop runs from 9am to 5pm EST. Attendance to all sessions is mandatory to receive certification. 

The workshop has three Modules:

• Module 1 (Oct 2): Introduction to Evidence-Based Healthcare
• Module 2 (Oct 5, Oct 6): The Systematic Review of Evidence Generated through Quantitative Research
• Module 3 (Oct 7, Oct 8): The Systematic Review of Evidence Generated by Qualitative Research, Narrative and Text

Participants learn to:

• Use JBI software tools to draft a systematic review protocol, including identifying a question, searching, retrieving and selecting research for the review
• Critically appraise sample quantitative and qualitative research and text and opinion as part of the review process
• ​​Use JBI software to perform a meta-analysis and meta-synthesis of selected studies

• Systematic Review of Quantitative Evidence

Full 5 day/all day attendance is required to obtain JBI certification. Participants present review protocols on the final day of class. Graduates receive a one year SUMARI license. JBI Certification is included in the cost of the program.

Participant fee

Regular fee: $1,500 CAD (includes 13%HST)

Graduate/undergraduate students: $500 CAD  (includes 13%HST) *Proof of student status will need to be provided at the time of registration. Accepted documents: copy of the student card or letter received directly from the program office confirming student's enrolment. 

Queen's graduate/undergraduate students: $250 CAD (includes 13%HST)

Payment information

• Payments should be received by September 16th, 2026
• The fee includes 5 days instruction, JBI Certification, access/license to Sumari (the JBI software) and course materials.
• Cancellations within two weeks before the start of the workshop are responsible for a $200 CAD administrative fee. 
• Graduate students in the Queen’s Nursing and Health Quality programs should first consult their faculty advisor regarding registration.

As a member of the JBI international collaboration dedicated to advancing the science of synthesis, the Queen’s Collaboration for Health Care Quality (QcHcQ ) welcomes international applicants to the Comprehensive Systematic Review Training (CSRT) workshop. Applicants are advised of the following course eligibility:

• When completing the registration form, indicate the JBI centre in your country with whom you will be working upon completion of the program.
• Proficiency in English is a prerequisite. Courses at the QcHcQ are conducted in English and participants must have a sufficient level of English to engage in a university graduate level program, for example:TOEFL Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT): A minimum overall score of 88, made up of the minimum scores in each component test as follows: Writing test: 24/30; Speaking test: 22/30; Reading test: 22/30; Listening test: 20/30; MELAB: 80 (minimum overall score); IELTS: 7 (minimum score, academic module); PTE Academic: 65 (minimum overall score).

    Re: travel visas: This 5-day workshop is a privately managed certification course administered by JBI and delivered by certified JBI trainers. Full attendance is required for successful completion and certification as a systematic review author by JBI. The course is not part of the Queen’s University School of Nursing academic program. Applicants do not qualify for a working permit or study permit on the basis of this course.

    Determine if you are from a visa-exempt country or whether you will require travel authorization. Applicants from countries who require a ‘visitor' visa will need a letter of invitation from QcHcQ.  The letter of invitation outlines the contents of the 5-day course and provides contact information for QcHcQ.  Applicants are entirely responsible for their course fee, travel and accommodation expenses, insurance and incidental costs for the visit. Please note: Enrolment is limited and payment in full is required to confirm acceptance in program.
